'Memory Matters' Dementia Conference

The Memory Matters dementia conference addressed improving life with dementia in Southampton, and the launch of Southampton’s local dementia strategy. Around 75 people attended from the health service, community and voluntary groups, and the public.

The conference was organised by Southampton NHS, Southampton City Council, the Alzheimer’s Society and Southampton Seniors Council. Speakers addressed topics included designing dementia-friendly environments, the green paper on social care, and Admiral nursing.

Afternoon workshops gave attendees a chance to share their experiences and views on what needs to happen to improve dementia care.

Following the conference, a report will be produced of the event. The report will include the ground-breaking research going on at the University of Southampton and work at Southampton Memory Clinic, highlighting Southampton’s strong position on improving life for people with dementia.
